President & CEO  

Paula Gold-Williams is the President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CPS Energy. Paula leads 3,100 team members with the vision she has coined “People First,” whereby CPS Energy is evolving its efforts to deliver value to its customers, community, and employees into a new age of energy solutions.

Paula has more than 30 years of leadership experience in San Antonio, including being a Regional Controller for Time Warner’s cable and telephony regional office and the VP of Finance for Luby’s, Inc. before coming to CPS Energy in late 2004.

Over her 16 years at CPS Energy, she has progressively served as Controller & Assistant Treasurer; VP & Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) – Organizational Excellence & Shared Services; EVP, Chief Financial Officer (CFO) & Treasurer; and EVP – Financial & Administrative Services, CFO & Treasurer.

In addition to her role at CPS Energy, Paula serves on a broad portfolio of boards and committees and is a Past Chair of the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce. Further, in 2019, Paula was awarded the inaugural Chief Trailblazer of the Year, an international honor by S&P Global Platts for her innovation and commitment to customers and her community.

Paula has an associate degree in fine arts from San Antonio College. She earned a BBA in accounting from St. Mary’s University, as well as a finance and accounting MBA from Regis University in Denver, Colorado. She is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA).

Fred Bonewell

Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Fred Bonewell oversees the operations of CPS Energy’s power generation and electric delivery businesses.  He is responsible for optimizing various aspects of our business operations, including power generation, the energy grid, workplace safety, integrated security and stakeholder engagement. 

Prior to his current role, Fred oversaw all of CPS Energy’s cyber & physical security, enterprise & public safety, fleet operations, business continuity, operational excellence, and gas solutions.

Fred has more than 30 years of progressive leadership experience in employee health and safety, risk, workers’ compensation, and labor relations. In 2016, he was recognized by the National Safety Council for Distinguished Service to Safety. He has worked for Louisville Gas & Electric, Florida Power & Light, Enel Group and other utilities.

Fred is a graduate of Indiana State University.

Chief Power, Sustainability, & Business Development Officer (CPSBDO)

Frank Almaraz oversees CPS Energy’s Power Generation, Energy Market Operations, and Business & Economic Development functions. Previously, he has held the positions of Chief Administrative & Business Development Officer, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations, and Interim Executive Vice President, Treasurer.

Frank has led the execution of several key initiatives including the acquisition of an 800MW natural gas combined cycle power plant, negotiation of a complex and market-moving 25-year 400MW solar Power Purchase Agreement, and an agreement to deploy advanced metering infrastructure to the CPS Energy gas and electric systems. Frank is also on the Boards of Directors of the American Gas Association, the San Antonio Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and the DoSeum, San Antonio’s Museum for Kids.

Frank joined CPS Energy in 2011 after serving in various executive roles at Energy Future Holdings in Dallas.

Frank has a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Distribution from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University.

Paul Barham is responsible for the safe, reliable and economical delivery of electrical power to our customers. Barham has been with CPS Energy for over 34 years. He has served in a variety of positions at our utility, including leadership positions in Power Generation, Generation Planning and Energy Market Operations.

Kevin Pollo oversees the utility's wholesale power portfolio management, including Day Ahead and Real Time operations, bilateral power trading, fuels management, and associated analytics. He works across the enterprise on strategic opportunities such as the FlexPOWERSM Bundle.

Kevin has been at CPS Energy for 14 years in roles such as Manager of Day Ahead Operations and Nuclear Oversight Manager. He most recently served as the Director of Day Ahead and Real Time Operations. Prior to CPS Energy, Kevin worked for a Fortune 500 global electronics company in quality engineering and quality management roles. He also served in the U.S. Navy.

Jose Trevino is responsible for ensuring strong operations of our power plants. Benny Ethridge is responsible for leading the Power Generation business unit, including oversight of CPS Energy’s ownership interest in the South Texas Project (STP).

Benny joined CPS Energy in 2015 with over 30 years of diverse energy industry experience in the CAISO, PJM & ERCOT markets. He began his career with Houston Lighting & Power Company as a construction engineer and plant engineer. Following industry deregulation, he served in a variety of technical, commercial and operational leadership roles with Reliant Energy, Topaz Power Group & NRG Energy.

Benny holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration from Houston Baptist University. He is a registered professional engineer in the State of Texas.

Vice President of Generation Excellence & Nuclear Oversight

Larry Blaylock oversees Power Generation’s analytics, control systems & support, asset management, plant analytics & reporting, and reliability & compliance teams. In addition, he is responsible for direct oversight of CPS Energy’s ownership interest in the South Texas Project (STP), serves as a member on the STP Nuclear Operating Company Board of Directors, and is an alternate representative on the STP Owners Committee. He is responsible for improving performance in Power Generation and ensuring STP is operated safely, reliably, and efficiently.

Before his current role, he served as Senior Director of Nuclear Oversight & Development. Prior to joining CPS Energy in 2002, Larry served on active duty in the U.S. Navy for nearly 22 years in positions of increasing responsibility. He has more than 30 years of progressive leadership experience in commercial and government nuclear energy.

Larry received nuclear training in the U.S. Navy and earned a bachelor’s degree with a concentration in nuclear engineering technology from Thomas Edison State College. He has also completed several graduate-level engineering and environmental management courses.

Senior Director Executive in Residence Grid Optimization & Resiliency

Garrick Williams is responsible for leading the key strategic coordination of our Company’s response to the City of San Antonio’s Emergency Preparedness Committee, which was formed to study the preparedness and response of our Company, San Antonio Water System, and the City to Winter Storm Uri. His work will help inform recommendations for improvement to better prepare our Company and San Antonio for future events.

Previous roles include serving as the Senior Director Executive in Residence in Energy Supply & Market Operations, assessing CPS Energy’s day-to-day operations within the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT). He was also Senior Director in Military Strategic Cooperation & Support, previously referred to as JBSA Energy Solutions, to drive our commitment to support the military and their families.

Garrick earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Southern University in Baton Rouge, LA and a Master of Business Administration from Strayer University in Washington, D.C.

Richard previously served as Director of the Northwest Service District. In that role he oversaw construction and maintenance of CPS Energy's electric distribution assets, including Overhead Distribution, Service & Meter, Underground Residential Distribution, and Underground Electric Distribution.

Bert Hargesheimer leads the organization’s Fleet Operations and Enterprise & Public Safety teams.

Since joining CPS Energy in January 2011, Bert has held various positions in operations, budget & analysis, and process improvement.  Prior to his work in Safety, he served as Director – Planning, Analysis, & Communication for the CFO, which included spearheading business planning and budget for operational business units. 

Before joining CPS Energy, Bert held leadership positions for over 15 years at Overall Laundry Services, Aramark Uniform Services, and Stoltz & Company, a boutique Risk Management and Insurance Brokerage firm.  During this time, he gained extensive experience through operations and customer-facing roles.

Bert has a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Systems & Information Science from Syracuse University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Washington Executive MBA Program.  He served as President of the Inspire Community Fine Arts Center Board of Directors from 2013-2014.

Rick Maldonado is responsible for the Real Time Operations of the Transmission & Distribution electrical grid, including oversight for control room operations, maintenance & support of the Supervisory Control & Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems, and Service Restoration.

Rick previously served as the Sr. Director of Distribution Construction & Maintenance, Director of Reliability & Outside Services and several other leadership roles within the organization. He has 32 years of experience in the energy industry, including 27 years of dedicated service at CPS Energy.

Rick earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&I University and a Master of Science in Industrial Engineering from St. Mary’s University.  He is a licensed professional engineer in the state of Texas.

Shawn Eddy oversees our energy emergency response and conservation efforts, including a coordinated energy emergency action plan within our Company, as well as among our municipal partners, customers, and other stakeholders.
 
Shawn has been with CPS Energy since 2011, and previously served as the Sr. Director of Facilities & Asset Management. He then assumed leadership of the Customer Engineering area in November 2014, where he was responsible for the design of all new and remodeled electric and gas infrastructure requested by residential, multi-family and industrial customers. 

Shawn holds a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice and a Master of Public Administration from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Lisa joined CPS Energy in 2000 and has worked in a variety of roles, last serving as Vice President of People & Culture from 2015 through 2020. She is an advocate for STEM education and workforce development and serves on the Board for San Antonio’s CAST public high schools. Maria Garcia leads our Supply Chain team toward their goal of making our business practices easier – for both internal and external customers.

Maria has been with CPS Energy since 1999, most recently serving as Vice President of Community Engagement & Corporate Responsibility. She’s also served in a variety of positions specific to Supply Chain, Customer Service & Gas Delivery, Key Account Management, and Community Engagement.

In 2009, she led the utility's creation of Casa Verde SA, which provides weatherization services to income-qualifying families.  She established CRU in 2014, and delivered the mobile customer service unit, Mobile Support Center (MSC), in 2017.

Maria has a Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration from the University of the Incarnate Word.  She is a graduate of the Executive Education Program at Rice University, in addition to Leadership San Antonio, and she serves on various community boards in San Antonio.

Curt Brockmann is responsible for bringing our enterprise compliance programs under one umbrella, while developing a more proactive, comprehensive and strategic approach to improve our compliance posture. Mr. Brockmann is also responsible for the Facilities Master Planning group.

Previously, Curt provided legal services and advice to our power generation, gas, ESMO, nuclear, EDS, and safety & security areas and proactively improved the quality of strategic development at CPS Energy.

Curt has extensive experience working on environmental, compliance, and litigation issues as well as leading our compliance groups.

Formerly Senior Vice President of Distribution Service & Operations, Rudy oversaw maintenance and construction activity as well as the Energy Management Center, which operates our distribution system on a daily basis.

Before arriving at CPS Energy in 2012, Rudy served as Assistant City Manager and as Intergovernmental Relations Director in Corpus Christi. He also worked for TXU Corporation in Dallas for 13 years.

Rudy has a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Texas in Austin and a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Texas.

Prior to joining CPS Energy, Drew most recently worked at General Motors in Detroit, where he was a senior executive in their Chief Data and Analytics Office that was responsible for product development. Drew also spent more than 10 years at USAA, where he was the Director of Integrated Products.

Drew is a U.S. Marine Corps veteran with a B.S. in Political Science from the United States Naval Academy and an MBA from the University of Texas, McCombs School of Business.

Shanna Ramirez oversees CPS Energy's Legal, Audit, and Governmental Relations functions. She also provides leadership to the Regulatory Affairs & Public Policy, Claims and Records Management groups, as well as serves as Secretary to the Board of Trustees.  Shanna is responsible for driving strategic initiatives to advance the interests of its customers and community, including environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals.

In her previous role, Shanna oversaw the cyber, physical and data security, incident response, and business continuity.

Shanna joined CPS Energy in 2015 as Director & Senior Counsel and has extensive experience providing business and legal advice. She practiced employment litigation at Haynes and Boone, LLP, and was Vice President & Deputy General Counsel for Fiesta Restaurant Group, Inc., supervising Legal Services, Safety & Risk, Claims, and Licensing & Compliance.

Shanna earned her Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Trinity University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Maryland School of Law. She is also a graduate of the Executive Education, Accelerated Development Program at Rice University.

Devi Kumar-Nambiar

 
Devi Kumar-Nambiar

Interim Deputy General Counsel

Devi Kumar-Nambiar oversees financial, transactional, and strategic legal matters.

Since 2015, Devi has worked on major strategic initiatives, including the FlexPOWERBundleSM and FlexSTEPSM, which are global Requests for Proposals (RFPs) that are helping CPS Energy expand power generation and demand-side options, while remaining focused on energy efficiency and conservation.

Prior to working for CPS Energy, Devi was an attorney with Davidson, Troilo, Ream & Garza, P.C., where she counseled international and domestic corporate clients and represented governmental entities. She also previously served as the Assistant General Counsel for Picoco LLC, an investment firm in California.

Devi holds a Juris Doctor with a specialization in International Legal Studies from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law.  She obtained her MBA from the University of Texas, McCombs School of Business and a Bachelor of Science from the University of California, Riverside.Devi is licensed to practice law in Texas and California. The San Antonio Business Journal recognized her as a 2021 “40 Under 40” honoree.

Interim Deputy General Counsel

Kip Giles oversees our claims administration, litigation activities, and other strategic legal matters.

Since 2009, Kip Giles has worked extensively on litigation-related work including open records, subpoenas, discovery, and claims resolution as well as multiple transmission/distribution and substation infrastructure projects.

Prior to working at CPS Energy, Kip was an Associate at Strasburger & Price, LLP (now Clark Hill PLC), where he broadly worked on general litigation matters.

Kip holds a Juris Doctor from St. Mary’s University and a Bachelor of Science from Angelo State University.

Luis Garcia oversees financial, transactional, and strategic legal matters.

Since joining CPS Energy in 2020, Luis has supported various initiatives and programs for information technology, finance, security, safety, military operations, and university research. He also provides legal supports to the company’s Rate Advisory Committee (RAC).

Prior to working for CPS Energy, Luis was an Executive Director Managing Counsel Technology and Transactions for United Services Automobile Association (USAA), a global insurance company. Luis' prior work experience also includes Pedernales Electric Cooperative, where he served in multiple C-Suite key roles, including General Counsel / Compliance Officer; Chief Information Technical Officer; and Chief Executive Officer.

Luis hold a law degree from St. Mary’s University and a BBA in Finance from UT Austin.

Vice President Audit Services

Matt Mills leads Audit Services, an independent and objective assurance and consulting activity that is guided by a philosophy of adding value to improve the operations of CPS Energy. Audit Services assists the organization in accomplishing its objectives by bringing a systematic and disciplined approach to evaluate and improve the effectiveness of the organization's governance, risk management and internal control processes. In addition, Audit Services supports the work of the external auditors and coordinates directly with the Board of Trustees Audit & Finance Committee.

Matt joined CPS Energy in 2016 and has more than 25 years of auditing and leadership experience. Most recently, he led internal audit efforts at Alamo Colleges. Additionally, he has held audit management roles at KCI, AT&T and Ernst & Young, LLP.

Matt earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an Accounting concentration from Trinity University. He is a Certified Public Accountant.

Cory Kuchinsky

 
Cory Kuchinsky

Chief Financial Officer (CFO) & Treasurer

Cory Kuchinsky oversees Accounting & Financial Reporting, Corporate Financial Planning, Cost Management, as well as Treasury, Strategic Pricing & Cost Recovery, Enterprise Risk Management and Financial Information Systems Management.

Cory joined CPS Energy in 2006 and has served in multiple leadership roles. Most recently, Cory served as Vice President of Strategic Pricing & Enterprise Risk Management & Solutions. Before taking that role, he was the Senior Director of Grid Transformation Management and led the deployment of CPS Energy’s Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI).

Since 2015, Cory has served on the Board of Directors of the North Chamber. In 2013, he completed the North Chamber Leadership Lab and in 2012 Cory was named to the San Antonio Business Journal’s “Who’s Who in Energy” list. In 2011, he was a member of the San Antonio Business Journal’s “Top 40 Under 40” list. He has over eight years as an adjunct instructor teaching numerous university level accounting courses at several local institutions. 

Cory is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Prior to joining CPS Energy, He worked for the Ernst & Young LLC office. Kuchinsky holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and a Master in Science in Accounting degrees from Trinity University.

Vice President, Accounting

Shannon Albert has more than 20 years of experience with CPS Energy. In her current role, she oversees Accounting & Financial Reporting, Corporate Financial Planning & Analysis, and Cost Management.

Prior to her current role, Shannon served in leadership roles in various areas within the Company, including Treasury, Corporate Planning, Customer Service, Controller, and Audit Services. She also served as Chief of Staff.

Before joining CPS Energy, Shannon worked in public accounting. She is a graduate of St. Mary’s University, where she received her Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Accounting. Shannon is a Certified Public Accountant and a Certified Internal Auditor.

Chad Hoopingarner

Interim Vice President of Strategic Pricing & Enterprise Risk Management & Solutions

Chad oversees innovative strategic pricing and product offerings that benefit our customers and community.  He recently oversaw multiple new pilot offerings related to electric vehicles and resiliency and led the successful implementation of a green tariff, allowing businesses to use energy from specific renewable energy projects like solar & wind, among others.  Chad is also responsible for ensuring that enterprise-wide risks to CPS Energy’s business are identified and mitigated appropriately.

Chad joined CPS Energy in 2015, coming to us from TXU Energy. He has extensive industry experience across the business including strategic & financial planning (with a strong focus in Pricing), product development and implementation, customer service and operations. 

Chad has a bachelor’s degree in business from Baylor University and an MBA from the University of Texas at Austin.

Chief Information Officer (CIO)

Vivian Bouet is responsible for overseeing the technology roadmap, enterprise architecture, business solutions development, digital experience, and innovation functions at CPS Energy – as well as providing leadership in corporate strategic planning.

Prior to joining CPS Energy, Bouet served in executive leadership and management positions as well as worked as a senior principal consultant. Her two most recent leadership positions were with Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc., a Fortune 19 company and Anthem Health Insurance Inc., a Fortune 29 company.

Vivian holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of New York, Albany with graduate studies in Software Engineering at DePaul University.

Evan O'Mahoney is responsible for leading the business solutions, infrastructure, technology operations, and engineering and transport services groups in our Enterprise Information Technology (EIT) business unit.

As an innovative business and technology leader, Evan has 15 years of experience driving change and growth in tech organizations such as Toshiba Corporation, where he served as Director, Solutions & Professional Services. Before joining CPS Energy in 2019, Evan was the Chief Technology Officer for Bexar County where he led his organization to implement strategic technology plans in support of all County offices, divisions and departments.

Jay Singh is responsible for leading the Digital Experience and Enterprise Advanced Analytics teams to leverage advanced digital and data technologies to deliver value to our customers and employees. Meanwhile, concurrently and incrementally, he’s leading his team to improve customer and employee experiences and deliver other technological capabilities that complement our enterprise strategies.

Marisol “Mari” Weymouth is responsible for leading Enterprise Business Planning, Portfolio & Project Management Office, and the Enterprise Change Management teams which includes the planning-to-execution ecosystem:  strategic alignment, business planning, portfolio and project management, and organizational “people readiness” change management.

Mari served CPS Energy from 2003 - 2010 and rejoined in 2015. She has previously served in various capacities across the organization including, Business Operations Management, Information Technology, Human Resources, Substation Construction, Smart Grid Transformation, Corporate Communications & Marketing, and Supply Chain. Mari is also on the Board of Directors for the San Antonio Mexico Friendship Council Board of Directors (SAMFCO).

Mari has a Bachelor of Arts, with a concentration in Computer Science/Application Systems, from St. Mary’s University, holds an MBA with a concentration in Finance and is currently pursuing her doctorate in Leadership Studies, both from Our Lady of the Lake University.

Director Board Relations & Chief of Staff to the President & CEO

Loretta Kerner is responsible for coordinating all internal activities for the President & CEO, managing the internal and external alignment strategy of our Board of Trustees and spearheading various special projects.

Most recently, Loretta led our Executive Brand & Outreach program, which positions our executives as recognized and sought-after thought leaders. Prior to CPS Energy, she led programming and fundraising for the Spurs’ Silver & Black Give Back Foundation.

Loretta has a Bachelor of Arts in International Studies, Spanish, and Political Science from Trinity University. Loretta is also on the Board of Directors of Blue Star Contemporary, Youth Code Jam and is an active member of the United Way of San Antonio and Bexar County’s Women United and acts as their event committee Co-Chair.
